Born in April 1989, Matty Healy is most well-known as the frontman of The 1975. The British musician is the son of actor Tim Healy and actress Denise Welch (who got divorced in 2012) and has a younger brother named Louis — who is also an actor.
While the “Robbers” singer did not share his family’s passion for acting, he did appear as an extra in several of his parents’ TV shows as a kid, including Coronation Street, Byker Grove and Waterloo Road.
In 2002, Matty — who was 13 at the time — formed The 1975 while in high school alongside lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer and producer George Daniel. Matty was originally set to play drums while Elliott Williams was going to perform the vocals, however, Williams left the band and Matty was promoted to the frontman.
A decade after their formation, the band began to rise to fame as their songs “Sex” and “Chocolate” gained popularity on the radio. They went on to release their debut self-titled album in 2013. Following their first release, the musical act grew even more popular and earned critical acclaim. They received Grammy nominations in 2017 and 2020.
Romantically, the “I’m In Love With You” crooner has dated several A-Listers including Halsey, Gabriella Brooks and FKA Twigs. In 2014, he was briefly linked to Taylor Swift. Following her split from Joe Alwyn, the pair reconnected in May 2023 before breaking up one month later.
