Candace Bushnell is an American author, journalist, and TV producer who first came into the limelight in the mid-1990s through her newspaper column titled S*x and the City (1994-1996). It was based on her and her friends’ lifestyles in New York City in the 1990s and was published in The New York Observer, a weekly newspaper that was printed from 1987 until 2016 when it became the online-only newspaper Observer. An anthology of these columns was published as a book of the same name in 1996. That book became the basis for the hit romantic comedy-drama TV series titled S*x and the City (1998–2004) and 2 commercially successful movies – S*x and the City: The Movie (2008) and S*x and the City 2 (2010). Candace has also written multiple other bestselling novels including 4 Blondes (2001), Trading Up (2003), Lipstick Jungle (2005), One Fifth Avenue (2008), The Carrie Diaries (2010), Summer and the City (2011), Killing Monica (2015), and Is There Still S*x in the City? (2019). Lipstick Jungle (2008–2009) and The Carrie Diaries (2013-2014) were eponymously adapted as comedy-drama TV series while One Fifth Avenue was also optioned for a TV show.

Candace’s paternal ancestry can be traced back to Francis Bushnell, one of the signatories of the ‘Guilford Covenant’, a covenant signed by the English colonists as the founding document of Quinnipiac (modern New Haven, a city in Connecticut) in June 1639.
